Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum is the largest memorial in the country that is solely dedicated to honoring all braches of the military, veterans and service personnel.
The museum is visited annually by over 100,000 people each year. Visitors come to see the rareSubmit oneof a kind exhibits that span from the civil war to today. Displays include cultural artifacts, art, uniforms, equipment and personal mementos. The hall also honors over 600 honorees including Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, Air Force Cross, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, The Kearny Cross, and the Distinguished Service Cross.
The hall also houses a 2,500-seat auditorium that was featured in the movie Silence of the Lambs for the “Memphis Courthouse” scene, including the escape scene. During the year the hall hosts numerous events including concerts, comedy shows, graduations and weddings.
“The purpose of the panels were to allow pedestrians on 5th Avenue that look up at our historic building and wonder just what it is, what we do, and what they could expect if they visit,” said Marketing Director Casey Patterson. “Basically taking our mission down to street level to educate our community about Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum.”
Designed by Patterson and Michael Kraus, the exhibits highlight the history of Soldiers and Sailors Hall and Museum from its inception in 1905 through construction completion in 1910, to today. The panels also feature various aspects of the mission, how the non-profit corporation accomplishes its mission through fundraising, different displays and artifacts that are exhibited, educational and veteran support programs, and how to utilize the rental facilities.
The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum chose two 36 inch by 18 inch Pannier Fiberglass Embedded panels in Pannier Rail Mount frames to display information for visitors to read at the entrance. Rail Mount exhibit frames were perfect for the museum because they are designed with a fully customized base, to enable mounting directly to their concrete railing. Pannier panels were ideal for the museum, which is open year round, thanks to their superior durability and ability to withstand elements of weather and vandalism. Pannier also offers a 10-year warranty to back up these claims, standard.
