Wayside exhibits enhance the resident and visitor experience at any location. These exhibits come in many forms and serve a multitude of functions, but a popular purpose of wayside exhibits is to showcase wayfinding signs and maps. After observing visitors’ behavior, The City of Monticello’s Parks and Beautification Committee realized their southern Utah town would greatly benefit from the addition of wayside exhibits. The exhibits would display informational maps where high volumes of people stop for driving breaks, similar to the signage at a National Park. Keeping residents in mind, the exhibits would also help community members take pride in their town and public places. After applying for a grant, the San Juan County Economic Development and Visitor Services Co-op Grant Program awarded the Beautification Committee with sufficient funds to purchase, design, and install three wayside exhibits.
