This beautiful project with a variety of historical signs got its start all the way back in 2022, when Grosse Ile Historical Society (GIHS) reached out to Pannier with their concept. Two years later the signs are fully installed for the community to enjoy just in time for warmer weather.
Grosse Ile Township was founded on July 6th, 1776, just two days after The United States was founded. GIHS was founded in 1959 as a way to highlight Grosse Ile’s rich history, life, and culture. The railroad depot built in 1904 was converted to a museum by the historical society to be used as a place for the public to visit and learn more about their community’s history.
“The project is a history timeline comprised of seven panels adorned with accompanying photos. The timeline tells the story of Grosse Ile, our island community, from its earliest days to the present. We envisioned an outdoor display that would allow the community to explore our island’s history at their leisure and when our museum was not open. In 2026, our nation and our community will each be celebrating a 250th anniversary. This timeline allows visitors to stroll along our History walk, marvel at the view of the scenic Detroit River, and reflect on the bygone eras that shaped Grosse Ile’s identity.” said Jeanne Krukowski, GIHS Treasurer and Board Member.
GIHS chose to use seven Triple Pedestals with 72″ x 30″ panels for the dedicated exhibit that they created for visitors and members of the community to enjoy. Triple Pedestals offer the sleek design of double pedestals, while adding the ability to place a larger panel on them with the added support of a third leg.
“We had a great experience working with Pannier. This was our first experience working on such a project and our main contact, Summer, helped us with all of the logistics. The crew that designed the panels were true artists who made the information come to life.” – Jeanne Krukowski
