Beautiful historic places deserve beautiful signs that complement a region’s rich culture and environmental aesthetic. With this concept in mind, the most historic area of El Paso, Texas, recently updated three interpretive kiosks along the famous Mission Trail. This trail is a nine-mile segment of the 1598 El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, a 1,500-mile route linking Mexico City to northern New Mexico, which is the oldest European trade route in North America. The El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro was designated as a National Historic Trail in 2000. Sharing living cultural legacies, the interpretive kiosks provide a greater understanding of this historic portion of the trail in El Paso County.

The new panels serve to provide the context and historical significance of the mission churches located at Ysleta and Socorro, and the presidio chapel at San Elizario. Many generous organizations, both public and private, were involved in the partnership and creation of this project. The designs for each panel were developed by a working committee comprised of residents and they feature both English and Spanish text. The panels were manufactured in Pannier’s durable Gel Coat Laminate material and inserted into Double Offset exhibit bases with custom metal cut-outs mounted on the top of each frame.

Pannier’s Double Offset frame design connects multiple upright exhibits together at an angle. This structure surrounds a user with important information and can be fabricated in double or triple kiosk formations. In addition to panels, Pannier’s Bulletin Cases can also be integrated into these units to post material that is frequently changed and updated.
We realize that not all exhibit bases are designed to look the same and because of this, in-house custom metal fabrication has become one of Pannier’s biggest strengths. Our aluminum metal cut-outs mount directly to the top of an Upright or Low Profile exhibit base to create a one-of-a-kind, decorative look. Cut-outs can be designed in a variety of creative shapes such as a skyline, mountain range, sunburst, or other personalized outlines (see examples below).
