This past Summer, Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden located in Onomea Valley partnered with Pannier to add wayfinding signage to their park.
In 1977, Dan Lutkenhouse Sr. visited Onomea Valley with his wife during a vacation and fell in love with the breathtaking scenery of the area. At that time, Dan was in the process of retiring and selling his 40-year-old trucking business when he and his wife decided they wanted to move from California and spend the rest of their lives on the island.
They purchased the 17-acre plot where the garden currently resides and Dan got to work transforming the land into the beautiful land it is today. After Dan passed away in 2007, his son Dan Lutkenhouse Jr. and daughter Debi Lutkenhouse-Frost took over operations of the botanical garden and continued to improve and expand the property.
Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden purchased five Traditional T’s paired with Gel Coat Laminate panels to install along the property’s paths. Choosing a low profile base such as a Traditional T was ideal for this project for a multitude of reasons. These simple, yet sturdy, signs position your panel in a way that is easy to read without calling attention away from the surrounding views. Paired with UV resistant Gel Coat Laminate panels, these signs will be sure to last for many years to come. The installation of these signs was driven by a need for a more sustainable solution to share park maps with visitors. Previously, paper handouts were used, but as a non-profit organization, the goal was to reduce waste and move towards a more eco-friendly approach.
“It was a pleasure working with Pannier. The initial calls were very informative and helped us to narrow down what we wanted based on examples we were familiar with. We specifically discussed the difficult environment of our business and what would withstand the elements best. Our graphic design team had no trouble uploading and editing proofs. Shipping arrived on time and in good condition. Our maintenance team was able to install the hardware with no issues. We’re pleased to now have these signs in our garden.”
