This past October, Stafford County Virginia unveiled a new mural showcasing 350 years of history outside its government center. Designed by Stafford County resident Dale Glasgow, the mural included famous figures such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Pocahontas, George Mason and more.
“I am excited about history and art for the lessons it teaches for everyone,” said Glasgow. “This emboldened me to speak as an expert for the vision on this project.”
An artist by profession, Glasgow works in many mediums. For this project he used one of his paintings and served as the photographer for many of the images. Glasgow did the initial research on the project then worked with a team of history experts to make it exact. There were over 25 revisions on this project to assure all of the information displayed was accurate.
“As it is my desire to work in different venues and presentations, I am challenged to use all methods of working creatively for so many projects,” said Glasgow. “I start with sketches and then use photo reference to create the foundation of what I will paint in style and form. After the paint is completed, I have the art digitized and then manipulate the image until it is client approved. In the process of finding images, I reviewed hundreds, then we went into the permissions phase of using old paintings and photos, fortunately all image permissions were granted to us. I also was the project lead for producing the frame and installation. We created the final display in my warehouse studio on our property.”
For the wall mural, Glasgow used six 54.5 inch x 72 inch Pannier Fiberglass Embedded panels to display the story and graphics, and two 137.5 inch x 12 inch panels for the title. Pannier’s panels were perfect for the outdoor mural thanks to their durability and ability to withstand the elements of the weather. The superior graphics and color bring Glasgow’s paintings, photographs and other images to life for visitors to see for many years.
“Pannier did an excellent job on creating our images for the centerpiece of our Stafford History Mural project,” said Glasgow. “Robin was excellent at fine tuning the details of production, materials and follow-through. She was professional in all aspects of communication which made it easy for us to complete the project on time.”
