Jason Gardiner is a member of Boy Scout Troop 57 from East Hampton, Connecticut. He recently earned his Eagle Scout status after the completion of a trail signage project along the East Hampton portion of the Air Line Trail. Jason worked for many months on the creation of four historical signs and his hard work will benefit the community for years to come.
The Air Line Trail is a hiking and cycling trail that begins in the northeast corner of Connecticut where the state borders Massachusetts and extends to East Hampton in the heart of the state. Jason grew up using the trail without ever knowing the history, which helped him develop the goals for his Eagle Scout Project.

As part of the project, Jason raised money to fund the design and production of the historical signs. After digging deep into the history of East Hampton, immersing himself in the public library archives, and talking to historians, Jason worked with designer Cheryl Gioielli on the text and layout of the panels. Cheryl’s long-standing relationship with Pannier made the material selection easy.

The Single Pedestal design is a beautiful addition to the trail and the panel material creates a vibrant and approachable display of information.
Throughout this endeavor, Jason not only earned his Eagle Scout status but gained hands-on experience of producing the historical signs from concept to completion. Cheryl Gioielli submitted a photo taken by Pam Gardiner of the sign installation to Pannier’s 2021 Photo Contest. With the help of community support and pride, it won the Grand Prize—fantastic job to all involved!
