Hilltop Reservation Gets A Fresh Look Ahead Of Warmer Weather

Hilltop Conservancy ordered a fresh Fiberglass Embedded Panel to replace one of the previous panels they had purchased from Pannier 12 years ago in 2012.
Client: Hilltop Conservancy
Location: Essex, NJ.
Products Used: Fiberglass Embedded Panels

Removing the twelve year old panel.

Hilltop Conservancy ordered the new Fiberglass Embedded Panel to continue telling the story of The Essex Mountain Sanatorium which was founded in 1907 to help treat people with Tuberculosis, an infectious disease that primarily targets the lungs. At sanatoriums, it was believed that fresh air, sunlight, and good hygiene would help people with Tuberculosis. This type of care may have helped them feel more comfortable, but ultimately, there was no real cure until an antibiotic was developed in 1943.

In 2001, the Sanatorium was designated a Conservation Easement by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, permanently dedicating it for conservation and passive recreation purposes. The rich history of this land prompted its caretakers to display signs highlighting its past, leading them to purchase their original signs from Pannier. 12 years later, one of the Fiberglass Embedded Panels needed to be replaced so they reached out to Pannier for a replacement order.

“The signage resides in the Hilltop Reservation, where, at the turn of the last century, the County of Essex, NJ, turned one of its buildings, atop the Second Watchung Mountain and once dedicated to housing orphans, into a much needed tuberculosis sanatorium. When the disease was eradicated, the building itself and supporting built infrastructure was idled, torn down and eventually all surrounding property of over 800 acres was put up for sale. A local group organized to retain over 280 acres of this property for the public good and it became a passive recreation reservation, where it is now part of the Essex County Parks system.

Essex County is one of the most densely populated places in the United States. This reservation provides respite for local people and habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna. Projects to do with removing invasive plant species, enhancing and expanding natural habitat and managing trails are ongoing. Pannier Graphics is an excellent company to work with and they care about the success of your project.  The replacement panels are perfect and now installed.  The stands are sturdy and take much abuse.  The fiberglass panels are ready to go for a good ten years.”
