In June 2012, the city of Horse Cave held their ribbon cutting ceremony for their new city walking tour. The city of Horse Cave is quite unique – it is a city built over the top of a cave. The mouth of the Hidden River Cave is in the center of town, as well as the center of the region’s colorful history and heritage.
The many diverse trails offer something for everyone. For the history buff there are facts, pictures and landmarks from our nation’s past. For the foodie, the tours offer a diverse cuisine at many local restaurants, cafes and coffee shops. And don’t forget the shopaholic….. there are plenty of unique shops and boutiques along the way.
The new walking tour leads visitors through Horse Cave’s Downtown Historic District to experience sites like the Kentucky Repertory Theater and the American Cave Museum. The city’s natural cave gave the area a rich resource that other cities of the time (even today) just didn’t have. (Read more about the City of Horse Cave at www.horsecavestories.com)
The Horse Cave walking tour is a cell phone tour, with scannable QR codes that link to the city’s website. Also, Pannier is proud to have been a partner with Joanna Hay Productions to create ten large, fiberglass embedded panels, which feature historic and contemporary photographs of the surrounding area.
Nine of the exhibits were displayed within a unique double-sided frame, mounted directly to the sidewalks in the town. This construction enabled the city to display their graphic panels on both sides of the frame, maximizing their usage of the city’s space. Mounting directly to the sidewalk, using Pannier’s baseplate mounting, allowed the city to install the panels easily, without having to dig into the ground and pour new concrete.
The larger sign was a whopping 71” wide and 40” tall. We manufactured this informativewayfinding sign in one piece, and also built a custom size frame to fit the panel.
“Pannier provided us with superb customer service as we developed the cultural tour signage for the City of Horse Cave. They advised us on technical specifications and placement, worked with us carefully on the proofs and delivered very well produced signs on schedule in time for us to meet our installation deadline. Thanks Robin and the rest of the Pannier team!” – Joanna Hay, Joanna Hay Productions
