Communities across the nation are experiencing the delightful and fun effects of StoryWalk® projects. This family-friendly activity involves reading a story as you follow the pages along a trail or path. The concept has been trending since it was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont in 2007 and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
Pannier is excited to announce a durable solution to display StoryWalk® pages. The Pannier StoryWalk® Exhibit is a Low Profile Single Pedestal frame that includes two pieces of acrylic to encase the individual story pages. The removable extrusion at the bottom makes changing out the pages hassle-free, which will keep visitors coming back for more.
“A StoryWalk® provides opportunities for the whole family to play and learn together by combining two great things: spending time outdoors and reading. It promotes early literacy skills, encourages physical activity, showcases local green spaces, and empowers caregivers to be their child’s first teacher.” —Lynn Capps, Assistant Director, Clay County Public Library System
Pannier recently worked with the Clay County Public Library System to fabricate 80 StoryWalk® Exhibits to install in four parks throughout the county. With Pannier’s Low Profile framing solution, the story pages are displayed without competing with the surrounding environment. The simple Single Pedestal design was perfect for working around existing structures and installing the frame close to the existing pedestrian pathways.
“This project was a response to the effects of COVID-19 on the community. The pandemic drastically reduced opportunities for children and families to gather in libraries. This meant families had fewer options for free, easily accessible early literacy education. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funded this project to create outdoor activities for small groups that encourage physical distancing.” —Lynn Capps, Assistant Director, Clay County Public Library System
In 2020, the pandemic caused a surge of StoryWalk® installations across the country and the ripple effect has been incredible. From Eufaula, Oklahoma to Clay County, Florida, and beyond, Pannier StoryWalk® Exhibits assist in encouraging families to get outside and read together.
“The customer service at Pannier was excellent—responses were always very quick and friendly even when we ran into unexpected challenges. The follow-up survey was thorough and reinforced that Pannier was dedicated to quality.” —Lynn Capps, Assistant Director, Clay County Public Library System
