This past summer, The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) partnered with Pannier Graphics to create interactive signage for Shawnee State Park located in West Portsmouth, Ohio.
ODNR ordered several Cantilevered frames and custom interactive panels, along with an immense Cut-to-Shape Fiberglass Embedded panel that stands over 6 feet tall. One custom panel features spinner cubes which can be turned to view birds from the area. The other custom panel features hinged doors that open to reveal aquatic animals from the area. Cantilevered frames were the perfect choice for highlighting these custom panels because of how unobtrusively they fit into the landscape and feature an angled panel for easy viewing.
“The riverwalk trail at Shawnee State Park has been enhanced with educational and interactive signage, providing families and children with a chance to explore and discover information about the river and various natural resources. This includes insights into plant species, Ohio’s wetlands, and the diverse array of animals that can be encountered along the trail.
The entire Shawnee Ohio River Campground, Park and Marina is a tribute to the strong community in and around Portsmouth. The riverwalk, and other amenities, were designed to provide entertainment and education for those staying the night as well as for families stopping by for the day. The signs were designed to help people young and old appreciate and learn new facts about the natural world around them.
Pannier’s quality of product provides our state properties with a consistent look and integrity to last in the outdoors. The ability to create interactive signs adds to the user experience along the trail. A 6-foot river monster cut out gives kids an opportunity to see how they measure up beside a blue catfish. Along the way are turning blocks featuring birds for each season that migrate toward the Ohio River. The project was a successful group effort between several parties at ODNR and Pannier. The idea of a few was brought to life beautifully for the entire community through collaborative efforts – from brainstorming to design to reality.”
